  • You want PC-less scan-to-folder for a few job buttons — works through PaperStream NX Manager, but at this volume most shops still drive it from a capture station.
  • You're moving from a Kodak i4000 series — operators adapt to the Ricoh feed mechanics in a week, expect retraining time.

  • You need a flatbed — the fi-8930 is ADF-only; pair it with an fi-70F or fi-7700 for fragile/bound originals.
  • You don't have a dedicated scan operator — this is a production unit; the throughput only happens with a person feeding hoppers.
  • You're tight on desk space — this is 18.4 x 23.0 x 15.4 inches and needs clearance front and back for the 750-sheet output stacker.

It runs at 130 ppm / 260 ipm in color at 200/300 dpi with a 750-sheet single-pass duplex ADF — the largest hopper in the fi-series and the reason it replaces the fi-7900 in heavy-shift environments. Optical resolution is 600 dpi, daily duty cycle is rated 110,000 sheets across two to eight-hour shifts, and the new 4.3-inch color touchscreen handles operator job selection without a host PC. Mixed-batch handling is the differentiator: A8 receipts up to A3 / 11x17 plans in the same hopper, with ultrasonic double-feed detection, paper-protection sensors, and Ricoh's iSOP (Intelligent Sonic Paper Protection) that listens for crumple sounds before they jam. PaperStream IP and PaperStream Capture Pro ship in the box; ISIS and TWAIN drivers cover Kofax, Laserfiche, Square 9, EzeScan, and most other capture platforms. Connectivity is USB 3.2 Gen 1x1 plus Gigabit Ethernet. The thing buyers regret: under-loading it. At 30,000 pages/day the per-page cost is great; at 5,000 you bought the wrong scanner.
