Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Ricoh fi-7300NX is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a 25-100 person office where multiple people scan to email or SharePoint and you don't want a PC tied to the scanner.
  • You scan 200-2,000 pages a day across mixed users — receipts, contracts, IDs, intake forms.
  • You want badge-based scan release (NFC card tap) so jobs land in the right person's folder without retyping credentials.
  • You already use SharePoint or a document management system and want one-touch buttons that drop scans straight into the right library.
  • You need Wi-Fi placement flexibility — drop it on a counter, copy room, or reception desk without pulling an Ethernet drop.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You scan 100-200 pages a day — the machine is overbuilt for that, but the touchscreen workflow still saves user time over a USB scanner.
  • You don't have NFC badges yet — login by username/PIN works fine, you can add cards later.
  • You occasionally need long-document mode (up to 218 inches) — it works but feed it carefully; this isn't a production scanner.
  • You want to scan thicker items like embossed cards — supported up to 1.4 mm, but stick to the manual return feed.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You scan more than 8,000 pages a day — you're past the recommended duty cycle, look at the fi-7600 or fi-8820 instead.
  • You need a flatbed for books, IDs, or fragile originals — this is sheet-fed only, pair it with an fi-70F or move to the fi-8270.
  • You don't have a network admin who can stand up PaperStream NX Manager — the device works standalone but you lose half the value (centralized job buttons, user policy, fleet update).
  • You scan A3 / 11x17 originals — max width is 8.5 inches, you'll need an fi-7460 or fi-8820.
  • You want a scanner you can move between desks all day — it's PC-less by design, but the 4.3-inch UI assumes a fixed home.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Ricoh fi-7300NX is a network-attached, PC-less document scanner built for shared use in offices of 25-100 people. It scans at 60 ppm / 120 ipm in color or B&W, holds 80 sheets in the ADF, and is rated for 8,000 sheets per day. The 4.3-inch color touchscreen with built-in NFC card reader is the reason buyers pick this over a USB scanner — users tap their badge, hit a job button (Scan to my SharePoint, Scan to AP folder, Scan to email), and walk away. No driver install, no PC tied to the device. Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) plus Gigabit Ethernet means you can drop it on a reception counter or in a copy room without a network drop. PaperStream NX Manager handles centralized fleet config, user permissions, and job button rollout from one console — that's the workflow most of our 50+ user customers actually buy this for. Image processing is the same Ricoh PaperStream IP engine used in the production fi-series, with auto-crop, blank-page deletion, color drop-out, and barcode/patch code recognition. Optical resolution is 600 dpi. The thing buyers regret: not budgeting time to set up NX Manager properly. Out of the box it's a fancy network scanner; with NX Manager it's a workflow.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 3 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Ricoh machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Been using this for our small accounting office for about 18 months now. The automatic document feeder is solid and handles our mixed batches of receipts and invoices without jamming. Image quality on the scans is crisp enough for archival, which was a requirement for us."
  • "Good workhorse scanner for the office. My only complaint is the learning curve on the software side took longer than I expected, but once I got the settings dialed in it's been reliable. Speeds are decent and the duplex scanning saves us time."
  • "Document handling is smooth with the fi-7300NX. We process a lot of forms daily and haven't had issues with misfeeds or quality degradation. Network connectivity works as advertised and integrating it with our existing workflow was straightforward."
