Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon PlotWave 345 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You're a 2-5 person CAD or architecture office plotting 30-100 A1 sheets a month.
  • You want sub-40-second first-print with Radiant Fusing.
  • You need BitLocker disk encryption for client data.
  • You'll use the auto-roll switcher between bond and vellum.
  • You scan and print from cloud and USB at the panel.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • It's fine if 600 x 1200 dpi works for your line drawings.
  • It's fine if you stay at dual-roll (no need for 4 rolls).
  • It's fine if you only print A1 occasionally.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • Skip this if you'll outgrow 4 ppm in a year (move to the PlotWave 365 at 6 ppm).
  • Skip this if you need color (look at ColorWave).
  • Skip this if you do production-volume plotting (the PlotWave 5000 is the right tier).
  • Skip this if you need 4 rolls or 800 m capacity.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon PlotWave 345 is a wide-format monochrome printer/scanner aimed at small CAD shops doing architectural blueprints and engineering drawings. It runs at 4 D/A1 pages per minute and 6.5 A0 pages per minute, prints at 600 x 1200 dpi, and uses Radiant Fusing for warm-up under 40 seconds and 1 W sleep power. The 10.4 inch color touchscreen supports preview, zoom, USB and cloud printing, and the dual-roll system holds up to 2 rolls at 650 ft each. Storage is encrypted via BitLocker, and an auto-roll switcher reduces media-change downtime. The dual-roll system handles 24 inch and 36 inch wide rolls automatically, and the integrated 1200 x 1200 dpi CCD scanner option adds blueprint capture. Footprint is roughly 60 x 30 inches and weight is around 320 lb. Power draw is low: 1 W in sleep, around 600 W during print, and Energy Star certified. Honest regret: 4 ppm at 600 x 1200 dpi is fine for occasional plots, but if you do daily print runs you'll outgrow this in a year — the PlotWave 365 at 6 ppm is the better mid-grade pick.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

FAQ

Canon PlotWave 345, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (704) 741-0821 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

Yes, the Canon PlotWave 345 ships with a starter toner cartridge. The starter toner typically includes two 500g bottles, providing a high yield for wide-format printing. For replacements, you can use the Océ PlotWave 345/365 Black Toner (part number 6696C001AA or 1284C001), which offers a standard yield of around 13,000 pages. When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.
The Canon PlotWave 345 is a monochrome wide-format printer designed for CAD and architectural blueprints, with a speed of 4 D/A1 pages per minute and a focus on efficiency and compact design. In contrast, the Canon Arizona 1240 GT is a flatbed UV-curable inkjet printer for sign shops and industrial applications, capable of printing on rigid substrates up to 49.6 x 98.8 inches with CMYK ink and variable droplet sizes for high-quality graphics. The PlotWave 345 is ideal for small CAD shops, while the Arizona 1240 GT is suited for large-format graphics and industrial printing. For small offices, the PlotWave 345 offers a more practical and cost-effective solution.
The Canon PlotWave 345 is well-suited for small businesses, particularly those in CAD or architectural fields, due to its compact design, efficient monochrome printing at 4 D/A1 pages per minute, and dual-roll system for handling large-format documents. However, its monochrome capability and speed may limit its use for businesses requiring high-volume or color printing.
No, the Canon PlotWave 345 is a monochrome printer and does not support color printing. If you need color printing, consider alternatives like the Canon imagePROGRAF TA-30, Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-4100, or the Canon Arizona 1240 GT for wide-format color capabilities.
