Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER 2530 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a 10-25 person office printing 4,000-8,000 pages a month, regular A3 work.
  • You want true 1200 x 1200 dpi print and standard auto duplex without paying for a managed contract.
  • You bought the optional DADF-AB1 for fast 51 ipm single-pass duplex scanning.
  • You're replacing a like-for-like 2530 and want supply continuity (GPR-30 / C-EXV33 toner).
  • You need a 100K pages/month duty cycle headroom over the 2525.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print up to 12,000 pages a month — within duty cycle, but the 14,600 impressions/cartridge means more toner swaps.
  • You occasionally print on heavier stocks — the bypass handles up to 209 g/m², plan media accordingly.
  • You need scan-to-cloud — not native, doable with MEAP apps.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print over 12,000 pages a month — move to the 2545 or the iR-ADV 4500 series.
  • You need color. Mono only.
  • You skipped the DADF-AB1 — flatbed-only scanning is a pain for any office with multi-page docs.
  • You need modern security baseline — TLS 1.2, SMBv3, encrypted PDF — not on this platform.
  • You need AirPrint native — works via Canon Print Business app, not direct.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER 2530 is the 30 ppm sibling of the 2525 in Canon's small-office A3 mono line — same true 1200 x 1200 dpi engine, same 5-inch color touchscreen, same chassis family, with a 100,000 pages/month max duty cycle (up from 75K on the 2525). Standard paper capacity is 650 sheets (550-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet bypass), expandable. First copy out is 5.4 seconds. Standard auto duplex print/copy is in the box; the DADF-AB1 single-pass duplex feeder is the optional add-on most buyers need and should spec up front. Toner is the GPR-30 / C-EXV33 family at about 14,600 impressions per cartridge. This is the right machine for a 10-25 person office printing 4,000-8,000 pages a month that needs reliable A3 mono with clean output and basic scan-to-email/SMB workflows. The thing buyers regret: skipping the DADF-AB1 to save money, then realizing flatbed-only scanning kills productivity in any office that pushes paper. The 2530 also predates modern security (no TLS 1.2 / SMBv3) and AirPrint, so if those matter, look at the iR 2425i or current iR-ADV DX. Otherwise this is a solid mid-tier A3 mono workhorse.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

Yes, the Canon imageRUNNER 2530 ships with a starter toner cartridge. The starter toner has a yield of approximately 14,600 pages at 6% coverage. The replacement toner model is the Canon GPR-35 (2785B003AA), which also yields 14,600 pages. When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.
The Canon imageRUNNER 2530 is a 30 ppm monochrome printer with a 5-inch color touchscreen, while the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 4825i offers 25 ppm and features a larger 10.1-inch color touchscreen. The 4825i includes modern security features like TPM 2.0 and supports Wi-Fi, while the 2530 lacks these. The 4825i also has a higher standard paper capacity (1,200 sheets vs. 650 sheets) and a faster single-pass duplex scanner. For small offices needing advanced features, the 4825i is the better choice.
The Canon imageRUNNER 2530 is well-suited for small businesses with 10-25 employees printing 4,000-8,000 pages monthly. It offers a 30 ppm print speed, a 100,000-page monthly duty cycle, and basic scan-to-email/SMB workflows. However, it lacks modern security features like TLS 1.2 and AirPrint.
No, the Canon imageRUNNER 2530 is a monochrome printer and only prints in black and white. For color printing, consider alternatives like the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C3525i, Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5535i, or Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C7565i.
