Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER 2525 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run an 8-20 person office printing 3,000-6,000 pages a month with regular A3 needs.
  • You want true 1200 x 1200 dpi print resolution — the 2525 is a noticeable step up from the iR 2018/2025i.
  • You're replacing a like-for-like 2525 and want to keep GPR-30 / C-EXV33 toner inventory.
  • You need standard auto duplex and a 5-inch color touchscreen for walk-up scan/copy workflows.
  • You can pop on the optional DADF-AB1 for single-pass duplex scanning when you need it.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print up to 8,000 pages a month — within duty cycle but expect more toner swaps.
  • You scan stacks occasionally — the optional DADF tops out around 51 ipm, fine for a small office.
  • You need basic scan-to-cloud — not native, but third-party MEAP apps exist.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print over 8,000 pages a month — go to the 2535/2545.
  • You need color. Mono only.
  • You skipped the optional DADF-AB1 — you'll regret it the first time you scan a 20-page contract on the flatbed one page at a time.
  • You need AirPrint or Mopria native — not on this platform; works via Canon Print Business app workaround.
  • You need modern security baseline — the 2525 has basic SMB/FTP auth but no TLS 1.2 / SMBv3.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER 2525 is a small-office A3 black-and-white MFP that prints 25 pages per minute at true 1200 x 1200 dpi — a real resolution step up from the iR 2018/2025i family. Standard paper capacity is 650 sheets (550-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet bypass), expandable with additional drawers, and the max duty cycle is 75,000 pages a month. First copy out is 5.4 seconds. The control panel is a 5-inch color touchscreen — finally a touch UI in this class. Auto duplex print/copy is standard; the DADF-AB1 (single-pass duplex feeder) is optional and most buyers should add it. Toner is the GPR-30 / C-EXV33 family. This is the right machine for an 8-20 person office printing 3,000-6,000 pages a month that needs regular tabloid and clean image quality. The thing buyers regret: skipping the optional DADF-AB1 to save $700, then scanning 20-page contracts a sheet at a time on the flatbed for the next four years. Spec the DADF up front. If volume runs over 8,000 pages/month, look at the 2535 or 2545 instead.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.
