Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imagePRESS C6010 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a commercial print shop or large in-plant doing 100,000 to 400,000 impressions a month — the C6010's 700K duty-cycle ceiling gives real headroom over the C6000VP's 300K.
  • You print on heavy coated stock and need rated speed up to 220 gsm and full coverage up to 300 gsm without registration drift.
  • You're producing booklets, perfect-bound books, brochures, and direct mail and want the full imagePRESS inline finishing line (POD Decks, perfect binder, saddle stitcher, document insertion, square-fold trimmer).
  • You need a print controller choice — the C6010 supports imagePRESS Server, imagePASS, EFI Fiery, and Creo. Most shops pair it with Fiery for color management.
  • You have three-phase 208V / 30A power, roughly 100 square feet for the base engine, and additional space for finishers (a fully loaded line can exceed 25 feet end-to-end).
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 50,000 to 100,000 impressions a month — the C6010 handles it easily and the per-page cost stays reasonable; you're just under-utilizing the duty cycle.
  • You're considering this as a multifunction with scan and copy — Canon classifies it as MFP-capable when paired with an optional Image Reader Unit, but in practice 95% of C6010 deployments are print-only. Budget accordingly.
  • You're stepping up from a C6000VP — operators adapt quickly; the operator panel, paper path, and consumables line are familiar.
  • You want PRISMAsync workflow but didn't buy the C6010VPS variant — you can run PRISMAsync as an external controller on the C6010 base, just at additional cost.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 30,000 impressions a month — wrong class of machine. An imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C7780i or imagePRESS V700 fits better.
  • You need true scan/copy as a daily workflow — the optional Image Reader is rare in production deployments and not a substitute for an MFP. Get a separate imageRUNNER ADVANCE for office scan/copy.
  • You don't have three-phase 208V power — the C6010 needs 30A three-phase. The C6010S variant exists for single-phase facilities; check before ordering.
  • You're buying new in 2026 — the C6010 has been replaced by the C6011 generation and superseded by the imagePRESS V900 / V1000. Buy refurbished only, and verify meter and consumable status.
  • You need long-sheet banner work past 13 x 19.2 inches — the sheet size ceiling is fixed.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imagePRESS C6010 is the second-generation full-production sheetfed color press in Canon's imagePRESS line, built for commercial print shops, large in-plants, trade printers, and franchise quick-print operations running 100,000 to 400,000 impressions a month. It prints at 60 ppm on letter and 33 ppm on 13 x 19.2 sheets at 1200 x 1200 dpi with 256 levels of gray, handles uncoated and coated media from 64 to 300 gsm (rated speed up to 220 gsm), and uses Canon's Advanced Image Transfer Belt (AITB) for offset-class solids in a single pass. Maximum monthly duty cycle is 700,000 impressions — more than double the C6000VP it replaced. Standard input is 2,000 sheets via the POD Deck, expandable through additional POD Decks and the full imagePRESS finishing line (perfect binder, saddle stitcher, document insertion, square-fold trimmer). Canon classifies the C6010 as multifunction-capable via an optional Image Reader Unit, but the dominant real-world deployment is print-only — get a separate imageRUNNER ADVANCE if you need scan and copy. The press requires an external controller (imagePRESS Server, imagePASS, EFI Fiery, or Creo), three-phase 208V / 30A power, and roughly 100 square feet of floor space for the base engine. The thing buyers regret: not budgeting for the controller and not measuring facility power before delivery. Three-phase isn't optional on this variant.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

FAQ

Canon imagePRESS C6010, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (704) 741-0821 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

Yes, the Canon imagePRESS C6010 ships with starter toner cartridges. These cartridges have an estimated yield of approximately 35,500 pages at 5% coverage. The replacement toner models are Canon IPQ-2 (Black 0436B003AA, Cyan 0437B003AA, Magenta 0438B003AA, and Yellow 0439B003AA), all with high-yield capacities. When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.
The Canon imagePRESS C6010 is a color production press with a speed of 60 ppm and a monthly duty cycle of 700,000 impressions, ideal for commercial print shops. In contrast, the Canon imagePRESS 1110 is a monochrome press with a speed of 110 ppm and a monthly duty cycle of 2.4 million pages, designed for high-volume transactional printing. The C6010 supports color printing and handles media up to 300 gsm, while the 1110 is optimized for black-and-white output and heavier media up to 110 lb cover. For small offices, the C6010 offers versatility with color, but the 1110 is better suited for high-volume monochrome environments.
The Canon imagePRESS C6010 is designed for commercial print shops and large in-plants, with a monthly duty cycle of 700,000 impressions and a speed of 60 ppm. Its high volume capacity, large footprint, and requirement for three-phase power make it overkill for most small businesses. Small businesses with lower print volumes may find it more practical to consider a smaller, more cost-effective printer.
Yes, the Canon imagePRESS C6010 is a full-color production press capable of printing in vibrant color at 1200 x 1200 dpi with 256 levels of gray. It uses four-color toner cartridges (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) to deliver high-quality color output.
