Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Ricoh fi-7700 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You scan 5,000-25,000 pages a day in records, archive, library, museum, or healthcare and need both A3 sheet-feed and an A3 flatbed for bound or fragile originals.
  • You handle bound books, ledgers, magazines, oversized historical docs, or anything you can't run through an ADF.
  • You're stepping up from an fi-7700S (simplex) — fi-7700 is the duplex version, same chassis.
  • You scan engineering drawings, plans, or large maps that exceed letter-size — true 12 x 18" flatbed scan area.
  • You're standardized on Kofax, Laserfiche, Square 9, or EzeScan and need ISIS/TWAIN.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You scan mostly via ADF and use the flatbed only a few times a day — it's there when you need it, no penalty for not using it.
  • You scan 1,000-5,000 pages a day — overbuilt for that volume, but the flatbed earns its keep on every bound original.
  • You want PC-less / touchscreen workflow — works through PaperStream NX Manager.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You don't have desk space for a 26 x 25.6" footprint — measure first; this is a big unit.
  • You scan more than 30,000 pages a day on the ADF — past recommended duty cycle, get the fi-8820/8930 for ADF-only or step into a Plustek OpticBook for high-volume bound scanning.
  • You never scan bound or fragile originals — you're paying for a flatbed you'll never use; the fi-7600 (same engine, no flatbed) is several hundred less.
  • You only scan letter-size — get the fi-8290 (letter flatbed + 90 ppm sheet-feed) for a smaller footprint.
  • You need network attach without a PC — fi-7700 is USB-only on the device; networking requires a PaperStream NX host.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Ricoh fi-7700 is an A3 production scanner with both a 300-sheet single-pass duplex ADF and an integrated 12 x 18-inch flatbed — the rare combination that lets one device handle both a 300-page contract batch and the bound ledger sitting next to it. It runs at 100 ppm / 200 ipm in color at 200/300 dpi through the ADF and produces a flatbed scan in 0.6 seconds. Daily duty cycle on the ADF is 30,000 sheets, optical resolution is 600 dpi. The flatbed scan area is true tabloid plus margin (12 x 18"), wide enough for engineering drawings, oversized intake forms, magazines, ledgers, museum and library originals, or anything too fragile or bound to run through a feeder. The ADF can rotate 180 degrees to fit different desk layouts. Mixed-batch handling matches the fi-7600/fi-7800 platform: A8 to A3 in the same hopper, ultrasonic double-feed detection, iSOP paper protection. PaperStream IP image processing handles auto-crop, deskew, blank-page deletion, color drop-out, hole punch removal, and Card Stitching. The 4.3-inch color touchscreen handles operator job buttons, and PaperStream NX Manager enables PC-less workflow. Drivers: ISIS, TWAIN, PaperStream IP. Connectivity is USB 3.2 Gen 1x1. The thing buyers regret: not measuring the desk. The flatbed adds significant footprint over the fi-7600.

FAQ

Ricoh fi-7700, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (704) 741-0821 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

The Ricoh fi-7700 is a document scanner and does not use toner or ink. Its primary consumables are roller kits and paper pads for maintenance. Since it is not a printer, there are no toner cartridges included or required. When you lease through us with maintenance included, you never pay for consumables separately.
The Ricoh fi-7700 is a production-level scanner with a 300-sheet ADF and a 12 x 18-inch flatbed, offering speeds of 100 ppm/200 ipm and a daily duty cycle of 30,000 sheets. The Ricoh fi-8170, on the other hand, is a high-volume desktop scanner with a 100-sheet ADF, speeds of 70 ppm/140 ipm, and a daily duty cycle of 10,000 sheets. The fi-7700 is better suited for large-format and mixed-batch scanning, while the fi-8170 is more compact and ideal for departments handling diverse document types, including plastic cards and long pages. For small offices needing high-volume scanning, the fi-8170 may be a more practical choice due to its compact size and network connectivity.
The Ricoh fi-7700 is a high-capacity production scanner designed for large volumes, with a daily duty cycle of 30,000 sheets and speeds of 100 ppm/200 ipm. While it offers advanced features like a large flatbed and mixed-batch handling, its size and capacity may be excessive for a typical small business. Small businesses with lower scanning needs might find a more compact and cost-effective solution better suited to their requirements.
The Ricoh fi-7700 is a document scanner and does not have printing capabilities, whether in color or monochrome. If you are looking for a color printer, consider alternatives like the Ricoh IM C3000, Ricoh IM C4500, or Ricoh IM C6000, which offer color printing features.
