Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Ricoh fi-7460 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You scan 2,000-10,000 pages a day in a department that sees A3, A2, and A1 originals — engineering drawings, medical charts, large legal exhibits, architectural plans.
  • You need a real A3 sheet-fed at 60 ppm / 120 ipm without a giant production-class footprint — this is the smallest A3 ADF scanner in its class at 15.0 x 8.2 inches.
  • You scan mixed batches all day — iSOP acoustic paper protection, Skew Reducer, brake roller, and ultrasonic multi-feed handle them without sorting.
  • You scan 27-413 gsm paper — thin onionskin to thick cardstock through the same ADF.
  • You're standardizing on Ricoh fi-7000 series and need an A3 model that shares PaperStream IP profiles with the rest of the fleet.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You scan mostly letter/legal — works fine, you're paying for A3 capability you'll occasionally need.
  • You only scan a few hundred pages a day — overbuilt at 18,000/day; the unit will outlast a five-year service contract.
  • You don't have an LCD on the operator panel use case — backlit LCD on the device shows scan settings and counter, but it's not a touchscreen.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You scan over 18,000 pages a day or need A3 at over 60 ppm — get the fi-7480 (80 ppm) or a true production scanner.
  • You only scan letter/legal — the fi-8150 or fi-8170 is cheaper and meets you where you are.
  • You need gigabit Ethernet — the fi-7460 is USB only; for network, look at the fi-7300NX or fi-8170.
  • You need a flatbed — none on this model. Pair with an fi-65F or fi-70F for cards/passports.
  • You need iSOP plus Overscan Control plus Image Monitoring — those are fi-8000 series upgrades.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Ricoh fi-7460 is a compact A3 production scanner — sheet-fed, duplex, 60 ppm / 120 ipm color (A4 landscape, 200/300 dpi), 100-sheet ADF, expected daily volume 18,000 sheets. It's the smallest A3 ADF scanner in its class (15.0 x 8.2 inches base footprint) and the model most resellers put in for engineering, healthcare, legal exhibit prep, and any department that hits A3, A2, or A1 originals regularly. Paper handling is genuinely versatile: 27 to 413 gsm in mixed batches, A8 to A3 native, folded A2 and A1 with the carrier sheet, plastic ID cards, and long pages up to 220 inches at 200 dpi. Intelligent Sonic Paper Protection (iSOP) listens for the sound of paper distress and stops the feed; the Skew Reducer prevents skew from carrying batch-to-batch; the brake roller keeps separation clean. Connectivity is USB 3.0 (USB 2.0/1.1 compatible) — there's no Ethernet on this model. The backlit LCD on the operator panel shows scan settings, counter, and pre-defined PaperStream Capture profiles. The thing buyers regret: not getting the Post Imprinter (fi-748PRB) up front; adding it later means downtime. Bundled: PaperStream IP, PaperStream Capture, Scanner Central Admin, ScanSnap Manager, ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 3 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Ricoh machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Been using the fi-7460 in our accounting department for about eight months now. The duplex scanning is fast and reliable, and it handles our mixed document batches without jamming. Driver software could be friendlier, but once it's set up it just works."
  • "Purchased this for my home office to digitize old files. It's a solid scanner, good build quality and the ADF processes stacks quickly. My only complaint is the software felt outdated compared to newer models, but for the price it does what I need."
  • "We use these in our document management team at work. They're workhorses that scan thousands of pages a day without breaking down. The paper handling is solid and maintenance is straightforward."

FAQ

Ricoh fi-7460, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (704) 741-0821 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

The Ricoh fi-7460 is a dedicated document scanner and does not use toner, as it is designed for scanning rather than printing. Instead, it requires maintenance parts such as pick roller sets, brake rollers, and cleaning kits to ensure optimal performance. When you lease through us with maintenance included, you never pay for these consumables separately.
The Ricoh fi-7460 is a compact A3 production scanner with a speed of 60 ppm / 120 ipm and a daily volume of 18,000 sheets, while the Ricoh fi-8170 is a high-volume desktop scanner with a speed of 70 ppm / 140 ipm and a daily volume of 10,000 sheets. The fi-8170 offers Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and a higher optical resolution of 600 dpi, making it more suitable for networked environments and higher detail scanning. The fi-7460 is more compact and specialized for mixed batch scanning, including large formats up to A3. For small offices with lower volume needs, the fi-7460 is a cost-effective choice.
The Ricoh fi-7460 is well-suited for small businesses that require high-volume scanning, with a daily capacity of 18,000 sheets and a speed of 60 ppm / 120 ipm. Its compact size and versatile paper handling make it ideal for departments like engineering, healthcare, or legal services.
