Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Oce Plotwave 340 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • Pick this if you run a small architecture or civil firm doing 100-500 D-size prints monthly.
  • Pick this if you want plotter, copier, and scanner in a single small-footprint unit.
  • Pick this if cloud print and scan workflows fit how your team handles markups in the field.
  • Pick this if instant-on print matters because your team prints in scattered bursts, not steady runs.
  • Pick this if you want optional inline folding to ship sets straight to job sites.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • It's fine if you print 50-100 D-size sheets monthly and want headroom.
  • It's fine if you only need one roll loaded most of the time.
  • It's fine if you only do basic scanning of markups, not high-volume archiving.
  • It's fine if your team mostly prints standard line drawings, not photo-rich renderings.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • Skip this if you need color printing; monochrome only.
  • Skip this if you print 600+ D-size sheets monthly; move to a PlotWave 350 or 500.
  • Skip this if you need duplex wide-format output; single-sided only.
  • Skip this if you need built-in advanced finishing like saddle-stitch booklets; this is plotter finishing only.
  • Skip this if your needs are letter and legal; a regular office MFP costs much less.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Oce PlotWave 340 is the small-office multifunction model in the PlotWave family for architects and engineers who want plotter, copier, and scanner in one unit but don't have a print room to dedicate to it. Speed is 4 D-size pages per minute or 10 linear feet per minute at 600x1200 dpi. Radiant Fusion means instant-on, no warm-up; you tap print and it pulls paper. The 10.4-inch ClearConnect color touchscreen handles job management with proper multi-touch gestures, which sounds trivial until you've used a wide-format with crusty arrow-key navigation. One or two 36-inch media rolls. Integrated color scanner via Oce ImageLogic captures markups well enough for redline workflow. Cloud printing and scanning supported. Sweet spot is 100 to 500 D-size prints per month at a small architecture or civil engineering firm. The one thing buyers regret is expecting the machine to keep up when they grow past 600 prints a month; the duty cycle is real but the speed becomes the bottleneck. Optional inline folding and stacking turns prints into ready-to-deliver field copies, which matters if you're sending sets to job sites. Quiet enough for shared office space.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.
