Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 8795i is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a print center, mailroom, or central reproduction department printing 25,000-80,000 pages a month in monochrome.
  • You need production speed without paying for the top-end 8705i — 95 ppm letter, 49 ppm at 11x17 hits the sweet spot for most central repro.
  • You produce booklets, stapled packets, hole-punched manuals, Z-folded letters, or accordion-folded brochures regularly — the optional Booklet Finisher-W1 PRO + Document Insertion + Professional Puncher handle all of it.
  • You scan high volumes of mixed-size originals continuously — the 200-sheet single-pass DPF runs 270 ipm in duplex.
  • You already standardize on Canon imageRUNNER and need a production A3 mono unit that drops into uniFLOW for fleet management and badge release.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 15,000-25,000 pages a month — the engine handles it easily, you'll just amortize the lease over more pages.
  • You don't need 105 ppm — the 8795i is the right pick for most production environments that don't need the absolute top speed.
  • You're replacing a Konica bizhub PRO 951 or Xerox D series — the 10.1-inch touchscreen and uniFLOW workflow are familiar territory.
  • You want the optional 1 TB hard drive for heavy mail-box use — it bolts on and gives you ~480 GB of Advanced Box space vs the standard 16 GB.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 15,000 pages a month — you're paying for a production engine and using a fraction of it. Get the iR-ADV DX 6800 series instead.
  • You need color — this is mono only. Look at the imagePRESS series for production color.
  • You don't have floor space — this is a 26.4 x 30.4 x 46.6-inch unit weighing 487 lb basic. Fully configured with finishing it spans 199.5 inches wide (16+ feet).
  • You only print letter — at 95 ppm letter you're using maybe 50% of the engine's actual capability vs printing tabloid jobs.
  • You don't have an authorized Canon dealer — GPR-37 toner and managed service are easier through contract channels.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 8795i is the mid-production model in the iR-ADV DX 8700 series — a floor-standing A3 monochrome MFP for print centers and mailrooms running 25,000-80,000 pages a month. It prints and copies at 95 ppm letter, 73 ppm letter-R, 60 ppm legal, 49 ppm at 11x17, with first copy out in 2.7 seconds. Standard paper capacity is 4,360 sheets (dual 1,560-sheet drawers + dual 570-sheet cassettes + 100-sheet bypass), expandable to 8,020 sheets with optional decks. The 200-sheet single-pass DPF runs 270 ipm in duplex. The 8795i is identical to the 8786i and 8705i except for engine speed — same chassis, same finishing options, same software stack. The optional Booklet Finisher-W1 PRO with Booklet Trimmer, Document Insertion Unit-N1, Multi Function Professional Puncher-B1, and Paper Folding Unit-J1 handle saddle-stitched booklets, Z-fold, half-fold, C-fold, accordion-Z, and double parallel-fold. The 10.1-inch touchscreen runs uniFLOW Online and the standard imageRUNNER ADVANCE workflow. Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet plus Wi-Fi standard. Security stack: McAfee Embedded Control + FIPS 140-2 HDD encryption. The thing buyers regret: paying for the 8705i's extra 10 ppm when 95 ppm at letter is already faster than most operators can keep paper loaded. The other thing: fully configured this is a 199-inch-wide install. Toner is GPR-37 Black (70,000-page yield).

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 5 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Canon machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Good workhorse machine for our small marketing firm. The scan-to-email function works great and the touch screen interface is intuitive enough. Only downside is the learning curve for some of the advanced finishing features, but once you get past that it's fine."
  • "Replaced an older Xerox with this Canon and we're very happy with it. Print speeds are fast, the network connectivity is seamless, and our service tech says the reliability is above average for this class. Would recommend if you need something dependable for a busy department."
  • "We've had this in our office for two years now and it handles our high-volume printing without breaking a sweat. The finishing options are solid and the scan-to-email feature saves us a ton of time on document distribution."
  • "Fast output, excellent color quality on our marketing collateral, and the UI got a lot better with the recent firmware update. It's pricey but you get what you pay for with these Canon units."
  • "Does what it's supposed to do but the toner costs are brutal. Print quality is sharp and the network integration works fine, just wish there were cheaper consumable options available."
