Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4535i II is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a workgroup or department of 20-50 people that needs a floor-standing A3 (11x17) mono MFP and prints 5,000-15,000 pages a month.
  • You already manage a Canon fleet on uniFLOW or imageWARE Enterprise Management Console.
  • You need 11x17 tabloid output in-house (drawings, spreadsheets, marketing proofs) without color costs.
  • You want 1,185 sheets of standard paper capacity and the ability to expand to 6,335 with paper decks.
  • You're standardizing on the 10.1" Canon ADVANCE touchscreen UI across multiple devices.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 3,000-5,000 pages a month — overbuilt for that, but you'll just amortize a longer lease.
  • You need scanning but didn't budget for the single-pass ADF — the standard DADF-AV1 (100-sheet, 35 ipm) handles light scan stacks; add the DADF-A1 (150-sheet, 160 ipm) if scan is daily and heavy.
  • You're replacing a 4525i — same chassis, 10 ppm faster on Letter, no extra footprint.
  • You want Wi-Fi out of the box — wireless is standard on the II.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 2,000 pages a month — you're paying for 35 ppm and a 240-pound floor unit you barely use. Get a desktop MFP.
  • You need color. Mono only — get a Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C-series.
  • You need fast single-pass duplex scanning out of the box — the 150-sheet DADF-A1 (160 ipm) is an optional upgrade on this model, not standard.
  • You print more than 20,000 pages a month — at that volume look at the 4545i II or 4551i II for better per-page economics.
  • You want a small footprint — this is a floor-standing 23.1 x 29.1 x 47 inch unit at 240 lb.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4535i II is the second-generation 35-ppm model in Canon's 4500-series A3 mono laser MFP family — floor-standing chassis, 10.1" WSVGA color touchscreen, and the upgraded II-series firmware with additional standard security features. It prints and copies up to 35 ppm on Letter (32 ppm on Letter-R, 25 ppm on Legal, 22 ppm on 11x17), with a first-copy-out time as fast as 3.8 seconds and true 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution. Standard paper capacity is 1,185 sheets across two 550-sheet cassettes plus an 85-sheet stack bypass, expandable to 6,335 sheets with the Cassette Feeding Unit-AN1 plus Paper Deck Unit-F1. Max monthly duty cycle is 135,000 pages; Canon's recommended sweet spot is 5,000-15,000/month. The 10.1-inch touchscreen runs the full ADVANCE UI with My ADVANCE personalization and MEAP integrations (Google Drive, Box, OneDrive). Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet plus Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n standard; NFC and Bluetooth are optional add-ons. The 4535i II is the volume sweet spot of the 4500 family — fast enough for a busy department, slow enough that you don't pay 4545i pricing. The catch: ADF is still optional. Most buyers spec the 150-sheet single-pass DADF-A1 with this unit because the print speed is fast enough to feed a heavier scan workflow.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.
