Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4235 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a workgroup or department of 10-40 people printing 5,000-15,000 pages a month and want A3 mono with finishing.
  • You need 35-ppm B&W with the modern Canon ADVANCE UI (uniFLOW, MEAP) on a midsize chassis.
  • You're replacing a first-gen 4035 and want the same chassis with the 4200-series controller.
  • You're standardizing a Canon fleet and need a midspeed A3 unit for departmental use.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 15,000-25,000 pages a month — the machine handles it, you'll just rotate toner more often.
  • You need wireless — NB-W2 adapter is the optional path.
  • You need fax — optional Super G3 board.
  • You need finishing — staple, hole-punch, optional booklet maker bolts on cleanly.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print over 25,000 pages a month — step up to a 4245 or 4251, same chassis.
  • You need color — mono only.
  • You need built-in Wi-Fi — optional adapter only.
  • You need single-pass duplex ADF for heavy scanning — this is reversing DADF; the ADVANCE DX line has true single-pass.
  • You're shopping new — this generation is mostly EOL'd. Look at the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 4735i.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4235 is a 35-ppm A3 mono multifunction — the second speed in Canon's second-generation 4200-series ADVANCE chassis (4225/4235/4245/4251). Built for workgroups and departments of 10-40 people running 5,000-15,000 pages a month, with a monthly duty cycle around 150,000 pages. Print resolution is 1200 x 1200 dpi, first copy out in 3.8 seconds. Standard paper capacity is 1,180 sheets (dual 550-sheet drawers plus 80-sheet bypass), expandable to 4,980 with the 2,500-sheet side deck. Same chassis as the 4225/4245/4251 — 30.7 x 22.4 x 27.5 inches, 154 lb, runs on 120V. Standard connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet plus USB 2.0, with AirPrint, Mopria, and Google Cloud Print standard; Wi-Fi is optional via the NB-W2 adapter. Fax is an optional Super G3 board. The 8.4-inch SVGA touchscreen runs the ADVANCE UI with MEAP, uniFLOW, and standard scan-to-email, scan-to-SMB/FTP, scan-to-USB. The thing buyers regret: this generation is largely EOL'd by Canon — keep one if you have a service contract; if you're buying new, the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 4735i is the correct replacement and gives you a single-pass DADF.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.
