Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER 9070 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a high-volume enterprise central print operation, in-plant shop, or mailroom doing 100,000-300,000 pages a month.
  • You need 90-ppm A3 mono with full finishing (saddle-stitch booklet maker, hole-punch, large-capacity stacker, GBC binder).
  • You already have one on a service contract with a tech familiar with the iR9000 chassis.
  • You need a production B&W backup behind a digital color press.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 50,000-100,000 pages a month — overbuilt for that, but cheap per click on a refurb.
  • You're running legacy MEAP scan-to-network workflows — still works, no new cloud connectors.
  • You need a 90-ppm mono unit for variable run jobs — invoices, statements, manuals, training.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 25,000 pages a month — 617 lb on 208V/12A doesn't pencil out for that volume.
  • You need cloud scan or modern mobile printing — not native; MEAP apps for this platform are aging out.
  • You don't have a dealer with parts pipeline — Canon EOL'd this; OEM toner, fusers, and drums require a service relationship.
  • You need color — mono only.
  • You're shopping new — replaced by the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 8795 / 8705 series.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER 9070 is a 90-ppm production-class mono A3 multifunction — the top speed of Canon's iR9000 enterprise chassis. Built for enterprise central print, in-plant shops, and high-volume mailrooms running 100,000-300,000 pages a month, with a monthly duty cycle around 500,000 pages. Print resolution is 600 x 600 dpi (predates the 1200-dpi engines), first copy out in 2.8 seconds. Standard paper capacity is 4,150 sheets (dual 550-sheet drawers plus dual 1,500-sheet decks), expandable with side decks and HCFs. The chassis weighs 617 lb, runs on 208V/12A, and stands roughly 55 inches tall. Standard connectivity is 10/100 Ethernet and USB 2.0. Scan-to-email, scan-to-SMB/FTP, and I-fax run through the 8.4-inch SVGA touchscreen. Pairs with Canon's full finishing line: saddle-stitch booklet maker, large-capacity stacker, hole-punch, GBC binders. The thing buyers regret: this is a fully EOL'd platform. Keep it running if you have a service contract and the per-click works; don't buy one new. The current replacement is the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 8795 / 8705.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

FAQ

Canon imageRUNNER 9070, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (704) 741-0821 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

Yes, the Canon imageRUNNER 9070 ships with a starter toner cartridge. The starter toner yields approximately 33,000 to 36,600 pages at 5% coverage. The replacement toner model is the Canon GPR-7 (6748A003AA), which also yields around 33,000 to 36,600 pages. When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.
The Canon imageRUNNER 9070 is a 90-ppm monochrome multifunction printer designed for high-volume office environments, while the Canon imagePRESS 1110 is a 110-ppm monochrome digital press built for production printing. The imagePRESS 1110 offers higher resolution (1200 x 1200 dpi vs. 600 x 600 dpi), supports heavier media (up to 110 lb cover), and has a higher monthly duty cycle (2.4 million pages vs. 500,000 pages). The imageRUNNER 9070 includes scanning and copying features, while the imagePRESS 1110 is print-only (though the 1110S variant adds scanning). For small offices, the imageRUNNER 9070 is more practical due to its multifunction capabilities and smaller footprint.
The Canon imageRUNNER 9070 is designed for high-volume environments, with a monthly duty cycle of 500,000 pages and a speed of 90 ppm. While it is a powerful machine, its size, weight (617 lb), and enterprise-level features may be excessive for a small business. Additionally, it is a monochrome printer, which may limit its versatility. For small businesses, consider stepping up to a more compact and versatile commercial option.
No, the Canon imageRUNNER 9070 is a monochrome-only printer. For color printing, consider alternatives such as the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5560i, Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C7565i, or Canon imagePRESS C10000VP.
