Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER 5570 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a workgroup or department printing 15,000-50,000 pages a month and want a 55-ppm A3 mono workhorse.
  • You already have one on a service contract and want to keep it running rather than replace it.
  • You need a heavy-duty backup behind a newer color fleet — handles overflow and 11x17 jobs without breaking a sweat.
  • You have legacy MEAP scan workflows (eCopy, accounting apps) already wired to this chassis.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 8,000-15,000 pages a month — overbuilt, but a used 5570 with low meters is cheap insurance.
  • You need scan-to-email and scan-to-folder over SMB — works, just not as fast or polished as the current ADVANCE DX UI.
  • You need basic finishing (staple, hole-punch) — bolt on the inner finisher and you're set.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 5,000 pages a month — 474 lb of floor copier and a dedicated circuit for that volume is wasted money.
  • You need cloud destinations (OneDrive, Google Drive, SharePoint) — not native, requires MEAP apps that may no longer be supported.
  • You need Wi-Fi or AirPrint out of the box — wireless is an optional adapter, mobile support is thin.
  • You're buying new — this generation has been EOL'd by Canon for years. Buy the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 4845i or 4951i instead.
  • You need color — mono only.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER 5570 is a 55-ppm floor-standing mono A3 multifunction from Canon's mid-2000s iR production-class line. It's the slower sibling of the 6570 and 7086 in the same chassis — same 474 lb footprint, same 120V/16A power draw, same 8.4-inch SVGA touchscreen — built for departments and back offices running 15,000-50,000 pages a month. Standard paper capacity is 4,150 sheets across dual 550-sheet drawers and dual 1,500-sheet decks, expandable to 7,650 with the side deck. Print resolution is 600 x 600 dpi (this generation predates the 1200-dpi engines), first copy out in 3.3 seconds, monthly duty cycle 220,000 pages. Standard connectivity is 10/100 Ethernet and USB 2.0; wireless is the optional NB-W1 adapter. Scan-to-email, scan-to-folder over SMB/FTP, and I-fax are standard. The thing buyers regret: this is a 2005-era platform Canon no longer actively sells or markets. If you don't have an existing service relationship and someone who knows iR firmware quirks, you're better off on a current imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX 4845i. Keep a 5570 running if you've already got one and the per-click is cheap; don't go shopping for one new.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.
