Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRunner 3225 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a 15-30 person workgroup printing 4,000-8,000 pages a month with regular A3 needs.
  • You want true 1200 x 1200 dpi print — a step up from the 3025 (which tops out at enhanced 2400 x 600).
  • You're replacing a like-for-like 3225 and want supply continuity (GPR-30 / C-EXV33 family).
  • You need MEAP and the 8.4-inch touchscreen plus Gigabit Ethernet (the 3225 has 1000BASE-T standard).
  • You bought the optional DADF-AB1 for fast 51 ipm single-pass duplex scanning.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print up to 10,000 pages a month — within duty cycle, plan toner accordingly.
  • You batch-scan stacks — 50-sheet DADF, refills as needed.
  • You need basic finishing — inner finisher with stapling available.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You need color. Mono only.
  • You print over 10,000 pages a month — move to the 3235/3245.
  • You need modern security baseline — TLS 1.2 / SMBv3 / AirPrint not native.
  • You skipped the optional DADF-AB1 — you'll regret it the first time you scan a 30-page contract one sheet at a time.
  • You need professional booklet finishing — outside chassis scope.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER 3225 is a workgroup-class A3 black-and-white MFP — 25 ppm letter, true 1200 x 1200 dpi print, dual 550-sheet drawers (1,150 sheets standard), and a 75,000 pages/month max duty cycle. The key upgrade over the iR 3025 is the true 1200 x 1200 dpi engine (vs the 3025's enhanced 2400 x 600), plus standard Gigabit Ethernet. The 8.4-inch color touchscreen, MEAP application platform, and standard auto duplex are all in the box. The DADF-AB1 single-pass duplex feeder (51 ipm) is the optional add-on most buyers should spec up front. Toner is the GPR-30 / C-EXV33 family. First copy out is 5.7 seconds. This is the right MFP for a 15-30 person workgroup printing 4,000-8,000 pages a month that needs clean A3 mono output and the option to add MEAP-based custom workflows. The thing buyers regret: skipping the DADF-AB1 to save $700, then scanning multi-page documents on the flatbed for the next four years. Spec it. The platform predates TLS 1.2 / SMBv3 / AirPrint native, so if security or modern mobile printing matter, look at the iR-ADV DX 4700 series instead.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.
