Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER 2535 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a 15-35 person office printing 6,000-12,000 pages a month with regular A3 needs.
  • You want a 35 ppm A3 mono MFP with true 1200 x 1200 dpi and a fast 3.9-second first copy out.
  • You bought the 2535i — DADF, network print/scan, standard duplex all in the box.
  • You stock GPR-30 / C-EXV33 toner and want supply continuity across the 2525/2530/2535/2545 family.
  • You need a 150K pages/month duty cycle for headroom on heavy months.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print up to 18,000 pages a month — within duty cycle, plan extra toner inventory.
  • You batch-scan 50+ page documents — DADF tops out at 50 sheets, you'll do refills on the longest jobs.
  • You need basic Send-to-anywhere — works for SMB/FTP/email; cloud workflows need MEAP apps.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print over 18,000 pages a month — go to the iR-ADV 4500 series or 4700 series.
  • You need color. Mono only.
  • You need TLS 1.2, SMBv3, encrypted PDF, AirPrint — not native on this platform.
  • You bought the base 2535 (no 'i') and assumed network/duplex — those are kits on the base unit; spec the 2535i.
  • You need finishing (booklet, hole-punch) — limited options vs the 4500-series chassis.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER 2535 is a 35 ppm A3 black-and-white MFP — the workhorse middle of the 2525/2530/2535/2545 family. It prints at true 1200 x 1200 dpi, holds 650 sheets standard (550-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet bypass), and is rated for 150,000 pages a month. First copy out is a fast 3.9 seconds. The 'i' suffix matters: the iR 2535i ships with the DADF-AB1 single-pass duplex feeder, network print/scan, and standard auto duplex; the base 2535 needs those as kits. The control panel is a 5-inch color touchscreen. Toner is the GPR-30 / C-EXV33 family. This is the right machine for a 15-35 person office printing 6,000-12,000 pages a month that needs regular tabloid output, clean image quality, and basic scan-to-email/SMB. The thing buyers regret: ordering the base 2535 instead of the 2535i and then spending $1,200 in kits to bring it up to spec. Just spec the 2535i. The platform predates TLS 1.2 / SMBv3 / AirPrint, so if security or modern mobile printing matter, look at the iR 2425i or iR-ADV DX series instead.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.
