Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6000 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a fine art photo studio or photo lab producing the largest archival prints possible up to 60 in. wide.
  • You print gallery work, museum reproductions, and oversized fine art editions where 12-color LUCIA PRO + Chroma Optimizer matters.
  • You print 200-1,000 prints a month at 44-60 in. wide and standardize on 700 ml (PFI-1700) tanks.
  • You need the largest format Canon makes for color-critical photo work.
  • You have the floor space — 78.7 in. wide on the stand plus rear clearance.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 1,000-2,000 prints a month — works fine, you'll be running it hard. Plan for the head warranty cycle.
  • You print signage and POP alongside fine art — the PRO-6000 will do it but the PRO-6000S (8-color signage variant) is cheaper to operate per print for signage volume.
  • You're consolidating an outsourced 60 in. lab into in-house production.
  • You're a wedding or portrait photographer doing oversized gallery wraps and editioned prints.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print signage, posters, retail POP — the PRO-6000S (signage-tuned 8-color) is the right tool.
  • You don't print larger than 44 in. — the PRO-4000/4100 has the same ink set for less and a smaller footprint.
  • You print fewer than 50 prints a month — head clogging and ink shelf life are real concerns at low volume on a 12-color set this size.
  • You don't have ICC-profiled monitors and a color-managed workflow — you're paying for color depth you can't reproduce or judge.
  • The PRO-6100 is in market — it supersedes the PRO-6000 with refreshed mechanism. Buy the 6100 if both are options.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6000 is a 60-inch professional photographic large-format printer — the largest format in the LUCIA PRO line — built for fine art photo studios, museum reproduction houses, and pro photographers producing the largest archival prints Canon makes. It uses Canon's 12-color LUCIA PRO pigmented ink set with Chroma Optimizer (Photo Black, Matte Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Photo Cyan, Photo Magenta, Gray, Photo Gray, Red, Blue, plus the clear Chroma Optimizer for gloss/matte uniformity and scratch resistance). Maximum resolution is 2400 x 1200 dpi delivered through a 1.28-in.-wide PF-10 print head with 18,432 nozzles, anti-clogging FINE technology, and 27 ink-ejection sensors. Three processing chips manage large image files. A built-in color densitometer with three-color LED calibrates color repeatably across long runs. Dimensions are 78.7 in. wide x 38.7 in. deep x 46.0 in. tall (basket open), weight ~368 lb. Ink tanks are PFI-1100 (160 ml), PFI-1300 (330 ml), or PFI-1700 (700 ml). Connectivity includes Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB. We sell the PRO-6000 to fine art studios, museums, gallery print labs, and high-end pro photographers producing oversized editions and reproductions. The thing buyers regret: not stepping up to the PRO-6100 (refreshed mechanism, standard Wi-Fi) when both are available, or buying the 60-inch chassis when most of their work is 24-44 in.

How you can buy this printer

Buy it, lease it, or just reorder supplies

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 3 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Canon machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Good printer for technical drawings and architectural plans. Quality is consistent and it handles different paper types well. My only complaint is the ink costs add up quick if you're printing regularly, and the maintenance can be a hassle."
  • "Got this for architectural drawings and it does the job well. Print quality is consistent and the software integrates okay with our CAD programs. Only knocked off a star because the initial setup took longer than I expected and the manual could be clearer."
  • "Running this as part of a small photography printing business. Handles matte and glossy media without issues, and the ink system is reliable enough that I'm not constantly worried about clogs. Definitely worth the investment for serious print work."

FAQ

Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6000, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (704) 741-0821 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6000 does not use toner; it uses high-capacity ink tanks with capacities up to 700 ml (PFI-1700 series). These ink tanks are designed for high-volume, large-format printing, significantly reducing replacement frequency compared to standard 160 ml or 330 ml options. The printer ships with a starter set of ink tanks, and replacement options include PFI-1100 (160 ml), PFI-1300 (330 ml), and PFI-1700 (700 ml). When you lease through us with ink included, you never pay for ink separately.
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6000 is a 60-inch professional photographic large-format printer designed for fine art photo studios and high-end photographers, using a 12-color LUCIA PRO pigmented ink set for archival prints. In contrast, the Canon Arizona 1240 GT is a true-flatbed UV-curable inkjet printer built for sign shops and industrial print operations, capable of printing directly onto rigid substrates up to 49.6 x 98.8 inches and 2 inches thick. The PRO-6000 focuses on high-resolution photo printing with a 2400 x 1200 dpi resolution, while the Arizona 1240 GT offers CMYK printing with Océ VariaDot grayscale technology and is field-upgradeable for additional features like white ink and varnish. For small offices, the PRO-6000 is more suitable for high-quality photo printing, whereas the Arizona 1240 GT is better for industrial and signage applications.
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6000 is designed for fine art photo studios, museums, and high-end photographers producing large-format prints, making it less ideal for typical small business needs. Its large size (78.7 in. wide) and high-volume ink system are better suited for professional environments with consistent, high-volume printing. Small businesses with lower print volumes or smaller format needs might find the PRO-6000 excessive and may benefit from more compact and cost-effective options. For businesses requiring high-quality photo printing but with lower volume, consider stepping up to a commercial option that better fits your needs.
Yes, the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6000 supports color printing with its 12-color LUCIA PRO pigmented ink set, including Photo Black, Matte Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Photo Cyan, Photo Magenta, Gray, Photo Gray, Red, Blue, and Chroma Optimizer. This extensive color range ensures high-quality, archival prints suitable for fine art and professional photography. The printer is designed specifically for color-critical applications, making it an excellent choice for businesses requiring superior color accuracy and detail.
