Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imagePRESS C710 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You're a design firm, in-plant, or small commercial printer running 30,000-100,000 click-charged color pages a month.
  • You print on stocks up to 110 lb. Cover (300 gsm), with validated duplex up to 130 lb. Cover, on the R-VCSEL 2400 dpi platform.
  • You produce comps, proofs, packaging mockups, or short-run brochures up to 13x19.2 inches and need clean tonal gradations.
  • You already have a Fiery- or PRISMAsync-trained operator and want choice of imagePRESS Server H300, embedded G100, or PRISMAsync.
  • You need automatic duplex on heavy cover stock without babysitting the feeder.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 15,000-30,000 pages a month — the C710 handles it easily but you're paying for a 70-ppm engine you won't fully load.
  • You need scan/copy too — you can add the Duplex Color Image Reader-K1, but this was sold primarily as a print engine.
  • You want long-sheet up to 30 inches for banners — works, but requires the Stack Bypass and Long Sheet Tray add-ons.
  • You're stepping up from an imageRUNNER ADVANCE — color matching and engine reliability are noticeably better, expect 2-3 weeks of operator adjustment.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 8,000 pages a month — this is a 1,650-sheet base, 7,650-sheet max production engine. Get an imagePRESS Lite C165/C170 or an imageRUNNER ADVANCE instead.
  • You need Letter/A4 only — you're paying for a 13x19 paper path and SRA3-class engine you won't use.
  • You need a small footprint — base engine is 60.2 x 36.8 x 56.1 inches and grows fast with feeders and finishers.
  • You need network scan to email/SharePoint/SMB out of the box — scan is an option and the destination set is thin compared to an office MFP.
  • You don't have a Canon Solutions America service contract — these are click-billed devices typically sold with on-site PSO support, not retail.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imagePRESS C710 is the entry point to the modern imagePRESS C710/C810/C910 platform — 70 ppm Letter (43 ipm 11x17, 38 ipm 12x18, 33 ipm 13x19), 2400 x 2400 dpi via 32-beam R-VCSEL laser imaging, and a 1,650-sheet standard / 7,650-sheet maximum paper capacity across up to six sources. Paper-weight envelope is 14 lb. Bond to 110 lb. Cover (52-300 gsm) standard with validated duplex up to 130 lb. Cover. First-color-out is 7.7 seconds; the engine prints automatic duplex on any supported stock without slowing down on heavy covers. Choice of three controllers: external imagePRESS Server H300 (Fiery), embedded imagePRESS Server G100 (Fiery), or PRISMAsync Color Print Server. Same chassis as the C810/C910 — 60.2 x 36.8 x 56.1 inches, 697 lb. — so you can step up to 80 or 90 ppm later without moving the footprint. The thing buyers regret: treating it like an MFP. Scan/copy is the optional Duplex Color Image Reader-K1 (300-sheet single-pass ADF, up to 200 ipm BW duplex), and the destination set is limited compared to an office MFP. Buy this as a print engine, not a workgroup copier.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.
